"This is a pretty book but not great as a reference material. I bought it thinking I could look through it with my kids. It doesn't have an index so you can't look up specific animals or plants. Pretty but not what I was hoping for. Also, isn't revelant to my area of central Texas!"

Nature Anatomy The Curious Parts and Pieces of the Natural World Julia Rothman Julia Rothman 9781612122311 Books Reviews
- Nature Anatomy is Julia Rothman's new book for 2015. This is sort of a follow-up to her earlier book Farm Anatomy The Curious Parts and Pieces of Country Life that was published in 2015.
After completing Farm Anatomy, she got inspired to continue with what she was doing. So now she has expanded into the larger world of nature.
This 224-page paperback is not designed to be comprehensive like those humongous DK knowledge books. Nature Anatomy is more fun and simple. It covers the selected flora, fauna, insects, animals and geological formations such as mountains, the oceans.
I find it fascinating to read about all the interesting information, like the life cycle of a salmon, the types of edible plants you can find in a forest, parts of a bird, snowflakes, different types of flowers, trees, moths, mushrooms, the atmosphere and many more. The writing is accessible and I finished the book in one sitting and found myself occasionally going to Wikipedia to read up more about those things that fascinated me.
All the bits of information are presented alongside Julia Rothman's simple but beautifully coloured illustrations. I like the ink line styles with filled colours.
Overall, it's a fun and educational book. Recommended to all knowledge seekers.
(See more pictures of the book on my blog. Just visit my profile for the link.) - Great book, love the illustrations and the layout/order. I gave it 4 stars because it seems to be a book geared towards children, but I'd highly recommend them choosing a different font. Everything is in cursive which makes it difficult for younger readers.
- The art is so beautiful and inspiring! I love the author's candid explanations and observations. This is a simple companion for any child who is a nature lover.
- This is a pretty book but not great as a reference material. I bought it thinking I could look through it with my kids. It doesn't have an index so you can't look up specific animals or plants. Pretty but not what I was hoping for. Also, isn't revelant to my area of central Texas!
- Really beautiful book that's fun to look at and read. Although the cursive in it looks fancy and makes me feel as though I'm reading a field journal, it can be a bit hard to read.
- This is a beautiful book filled with great information and stunning drawings of various land forms, animals, plants, and more. It really was a great tool that I used while teaching my sons their homeschool work on science and nature. They loved learning and often would draw some of the items described and shown throughout the book. I really enjoyed opening it up to read to them and share too. I truly recommend this book for every family with young kids, however I also recommend it to adults, because it is not solely child-based and was really cool for those who want to learn about the natural world around them.
- The illustrations are very captivating. I couldn't help but go through it as soon as I received it. This Nature book covers various subjects, from animal and plant anatomy, to leaf and cloud identification, to the phases of the moon, and much more. This book is invaluable to the education of my children.
- Wonderful book. The author clearly did some research when writing, and the drawings are unique and beautiful. My only critique is that I wish each organism had their Latin names listed. I liked the variety of topics within the book, and the author managed to balance meaningful information alongside interesting personal commentary. I highly recommend this book. I look forward to purchasing Farm Anatomy, as well.
