  • I really like this book, some very interesting recipes. To be clear - this book is vegetarian, not vegan. As a result, eggs are used in some dishes. So, it isn't completely plant based and they may need to re-examine the title. I knew what I was getting, so I wasn't disappointed in that. However, if you are vegan - not all recipes will work for you.

But, there were some interesting and new takes and simple dishes and so far things have worked well that I tried.

Again - know what you are getting. This is NOT a vegan cookbook. But, if you are trying to make a transition, it is a great book for your journey.
  • I am a nutrition major so I really loved that this book was written by dietitians. I also am vegetarian and I liked that they are trying to make a plant-based diet easily accessible. Most people think a vegetarian diet is unattainable and only for rich people. Also, I really appreciated that they went over nutrient requirements in the beginning of the book. We eat to supply our body with nutrients but I think that gets pushed aside (cost, flavor etc) often so it was nice to see the book start there. I thought some of the recipes used too much feta cheese, like a lot of them have feta. I would like to see more originality if there was another book but overall I really enjoyed it. I was hesitant to buy this book because it sells as a 28 day reboot and I don't trust fad diets but after looking into the book I realized this wasn't a reboot that would be 90% vegetable juice recipes. If you've been thinking about going vegetarian or even eating plant based a few times a week I think this would be a good starter book)
  • I love the Food Heaven Podcast, so when I heard Wendy and Jess were coming out with a cookbook, I rushed to pre-order it. I am so glad I did because it is AMAZING! I am a tiny bit obsessed with this cookbook. One of my favorite things about this cookbook is that it is full of beautiful, colorful pictures. Cookbooks without pictures make me upset. I also love that all of the recipes are vegetarian, and they don't use processed meat substitutes (I'm lookin' at you- frozen, fake chicken.) So far I have made the green smoothie, granola, chickpea kale tacos, broccoli and cauliflower "chicken" nuggets, and the sun-dried tomato and basil quesadillas. Everything has been delicious and super easy to make. I can't wait to try the rest of the recipes. I'm also going to teach my middle school culinary students a few. Thanks, Wendy and Jess! I can't wait to see what you ladies come out with next!
  • I cannot rave about this book enough. I have always struggled with creating and following recipes that ended up in flavorful, delicious AND healthy meals. Outside of salads and veggie stir fry, I was basically stumped for options. Along comes these two young ladies with their wonderful website and YouTube videos that were not only engaging, but relatable and easy to follow. PLUS, they have so much experience as credentialed dieticians and nutritionists that I found myself learning so much about not only eating delicious foods on a budget, but also eating, delicious, HEALTHY foods on a budget! NOW THE BOOK IS HERE! Which means I can take all their wisdom with me not matter where I go. There are so many delicious recipes that are super easy to follow and fit within my budget. After spending some time with this book, I can say that almost all of the recipes are super simple. They also put labels on them like vegan, 30 minutes or less and gluten free, so it's perfect for people who have food intolerance and/or want quick easy meals. So far I have made 4 recipes and they were delicious and filling!!! As a meat eater, I was shocked that plant-based dishes could keep me full and satisfied. My hubby is loving the recipes too. Our favorite so far was the one-pot curry risotto (hubby practically licked the plate). It was so simple and I had most of the ingredients in my kitchen already, which is always a plus. I doubled the portions and added some to the freezer for later hehe. I also love the variety of smoothie recipes, and that all of the ingredients are in your local grocery store. They are super easy to prep before a busy day at work. The one's I have tried so far have kept me full for hours because they have a nice balance of healthy fats, fiber and protein. So far my favorite is the chocolate milk breakfast smoothie (they also have a chocolate oatmeal recipe!). Since Jess Wendy are Registered Dietitians, you actually know that you are getting healthy, balanced recipes. Non of the smoothies were filled with sugar and only fruit, which is what I tend to mostly see online. I can't wait to try more recipes and do not hesitate to give this book 5 stars. This is perfect for people who want to upgrade their diet and health in a fun and satisfying way, and good for people who don't want to have to go to specialty health food stores to eat healthy!
  • A close friend of mine is friends with one of the authors, and I got to vicariously peek at her book prior to ordering my own copy. (A great investment, and great to support these lovely authors!)
This book is so beautiful to look through and use. It's got as little or as much as you want to learn about nutrition; the explanations are clear and helpful and it's also easy to just dive in and use it.
I really REALLY really love all the photos that get you inspired, and the fact that these are recipes for 1-2 people is also really really awesome if you don't have a large family and don't want a ton of left overs. It's also really thoughtfully written in that several of the recipes share ingredients so you can make sure to use all of what you buy.
  • This book is helpful for people who need help in knowing where to get started. It has simple and uncomplicated recipes for people like me who want to eat healthier, but don't have a lot of time or money for the more trendy, expensive, and time consuming diets out there. Also, I like the fact that it is based on "plant-based" eating and not veganism. Thanks Jessica and Wendy for keeping it real and helping me to see that it is actually doable!
  • I love, love, love this book! It's a cookbook written with no agenda other than providing their community with recipes that are nutritious, simple and inexpensive. It's carefully crafted with wholesome recipes that can satisfy anyone! I can't express the level of gratitude I have for Jess & Wendy for writing this book.
