  • Reed Gunther is a cute little romp through the Western genre, with a bear-riding cowboy and a tough-as-nails lady rancher as our main protagonists. Reed claims to be a problem-solver, but when giant snakes rear their ugly heads, he ends up being more trouble than good.

Writing-wise, it feels very Dudley Do-Right-ish, even down to some of the tropes, but with a few welcome updates. First, there’s a supernatural element to the adventures, which is a ton of fun. Two, though she’s put in a damsel situation initially, Starla quickly proves her capability with a machete. Starla and Reed’s dynamic is a fun one too, with Reed being the affable good-guy type, and Starla being tough and hot-headed, though friendly once you get her guard down. They’re an engaging pair, and their moments of just talking to one another are as much fun as the action.

The art is colourful and energized, with a cartoonish style that lends itself well to endearing expressions and sweet, lopsided grins. It’s simple but effectively so.
