• All of my undergraduate courses in Biochemistry taught straight from this book at the University of Arizona. Having looked at three other biochemistry books, this is my favorite. 5th Edition was hardly different from 6th. Just a few changes to pictures, none of the problems were different. Before purchasing this, go to your Biochem department and ask if they have any of these lying around. My department had over 30 5th editions lying around free to anyone. Ask your profs if they are getting rid of there instructor's manual, I did and got a copy of one.
• After reading a super saturated chapter - I always go to this to recheck myself. The study guide provides a list of major concept that you should know or should have got out of your reading.
  
  WARNING
  Be wary of the solutions manual part. When the book calculates things it likes to round up constants. For example, instead of using 8.315 as a constant, they'll simply use 8. This skews the answers.
• I think that guide is helpful, but to be honest I have hardly touched it. I find that reading the text and attending lectures is enough to fully grasp the concepts. If you need a bit of extra help, or if you like to do end of chapter problems for practice, then this might be helpful. It is not only a guide in that it gives you fill in the blank questions to complete as you read the chapter, but it also contains the solutions for the problems at the end of the chapter, as well as a description of how to solve the problem.
• Biochemistry was probably one of my least favorite chemistry classes in college. That being said I am trying not to make my review biased. The text did a decent job of explaining most things. The pathways could have been written a little more clear or easy to understand. I did find better ones online that were more useful to study from, etc. Also, it was very frustrating that the solutions manual was lacking. It most certainly would have helped.
  
  However, quick and timely delivery.
• It's complete but almost impossible to learn from without supplemental resources. Get this and Essential Biochemistry and you'll have a much better time with it. Also Kahn Academy absolutely is amazing.
  
  This book is written by scientists. They are not writers, and it is painfully evident.
• I ordered this along with Absolute Ultimate Guide for Lehninger Principles of Biochemistry (Study Guide & Solutions Manual) believing that the combination would help me with my coming Biochemistry course. While this may be true, I DIDN'T NEED TO ORDER THIS ITEM!
  
  You see, this cell map is included with the study guide FOR FREE. There's no need to spend extra on this if you're already getting the study guide!
  
  That said, this item is of questionable usefulness. Imagine a large diagram of a generic cell with many places to fill in various processes as you learn them. It may be useful for some, but I'm not sure it exactly fits my learning style or the way the course if taught.
• Great book for Biochemistry! I had used this in undergrad and I am now an M.D. and I am glad this book was available to me!
• This book is okay doesn't give the added sustenance to the reader looking for conceptual understanding.
